Police Log: Man Skips Out on $900 Lottery Tab

Man Skips Out on $900 Lottery Tab

The owner of told police at about 4 p.m. Friday that approximately two weeks prior an “occasional customer” had racked up a $900 lottery bill. He said the customer asked if he could settle the bill the following day, and he agreed and took down the customer’s phone number. However, the customer never came back, and the phone number he gave went straight to an automated phone message, according to the owner.

Police were able to locate the customer at his residence through his license plate, which the owner had also taken down.

The customer told police that he was “appalled” that the owner had involved police in such a matter. He said he didn’t have the money and “stuff happened” but said he would pay the owner back this past weekend.

The owner told police he did not want to pursue criminal charges at this time.


Marijuana, Pocketknife Found on Youths at Cutter School Park

Police responded to on Robbins Road at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of youths gathering and possible marijuana activity.

Once there, police found seven youths gathered behind a tree in the far corner of the playground. The youths said that they were just hanging out and trying to stay dry under the tree. When asked if they had any drugs or anything else that they should not have had, one of them turned over a small plastic bag of marijuana to police (3.5 grams), another produced a small pocketknife.

Police told the youths that they would be recommending them for the diversion program and contacting their parents, as well as filing a police report on the incident.

Car Window Smashed Behind Arlington High School

A woman reported at about 5:35 a.m. Saturday that her driver’s side car window had been smashed overnight behind . She said the interior of her car had been gone through, but only about $5 in loose change appeared to be missing.

Early-Morning Argument Near Stratton School

Police responded to a disturbance in the middle of Mountain Avenue near at about 3:05 a.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, the area was clear except for a male sitting on the stairs in the Stratton playground area, police said. The male, who appeared to be drunk, told police that he had consumed “several beers” that night. He said that there had been a party at a house across the street, and, as people were leaving, an argument spilled out into the street.

A female who answered the door at the house told police that her parents were out of town and that she had a few friends over for a party. She said she had been drinking, and she said four of her friends were still in her house and were planning to spend the night. Police had her friends and the male contact their parents, as they were all under 21, to get picked up.
