Police Log: Drunk Driver Downs Pole on Pleasant, Ditches Smashed Car in Church Parking Lot

A driver from Lexington hits a light pole in Arlington, flees scene and ends up arrested.

It was a bad night for Dean R. Scalese, 41, of Lexington who started out in the Arlington Lodge of Elks and ended up ditching his smashed car in the parking lot of  St. Camillus Parish and attempting to outrun the Arlington Police Department.

Around 10: 30 p.m. on July 15, Scalese hit a light pole and street sign on Pleasant Street. Witnesses on the scene described the sound as "earth shaking."

Minutes later, the pole and street sign were in the middle of the road, a crowd was gathered and Scalese was gone.

Officers found the car with two flat front tires, a smashed windshield and various parts strewn beneath, ditched in Saint Camillus parking lot next to the dumpster.

Scalese attempted to run, but officers caught him, issued a field sobriety test and charged him with an OUI, leaving the scene of propert damage and negligent operation of motor vehicle.
