Arlington police are investigating an incident where a student left Ottoson Middle School without authorization late Wednesday morning to meet with an unknown adult in a nearby parking lot.

After the incident, the student returned to school and is no longer in any danger, Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan wrote in a Thursday email.

No other students were ever in any danger, however, strictly as a precautionary measure, the school was placed into a very brief “shelter in place,” as police sorted out the facts of the case, Ryan wrote.

Police are conducting a criminal investigation. Upon conclusion of that investigation, police will disclose more details about the case and release what, if any, charges are being sought, according to Ryan.

Ryan stressed Thursday that there is no known danger to public safety at this time.
