The female victim told police that she was almost across the street when she was hit. She said she didn’t see what hit her. She was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge with right-knee and leg pain, police said.

The driver told police that she was traveling at about 20-25 mph. “The next thing I could see was a woman run in front of my motor vehicle, so I skidded to avoid her,” she said.

She said the right part of her front bumper is what struck the woman, who fell to the curb after being hit.

Police said it was dark at the time of incident and the victim was wearing dark clothing. The officer on scene also noted that there is a crosswalk with a traffic light at the Park Circle Fire Station about 250 feet away from where the incident took place.

There were no witnesses on scene, police said.

Man Arrested for OUI After Hit-and-Run Crash

Police responded to Massachusetts Avenue near Grafton Street at about 6:35 p.m. Thursday for a report of a hit-and-run crash.

At the scene, a witness told police that a black BMW sedan, traveling west on Mass. Ave., had just rear-ended a parked pickup truck and then, without hesitating, continued driving, taking a right on Grafton Street.

Moments later, an officer spotted a black BMW sedan with front-end damage on Broadway and pulled it over.

The driver was visibly drunk, had slurred speech and trouble keeping his balance, according to police. He failed field sobriety tests on scene and refused a portable breathalyzer, police said.

Police arrested the driver, Edwin J. Steel, and charged him with operating under the influence, first offense, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
