Police Identify Victim of Thursday’s Fatal Pedestrian Crash

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Orvis Road in East Arlington. The Arlington driver has been cited.

A 77-year-old Boston woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night at the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Orvis Road in East Arlington.

The victim, Elba Ortiz-Delgado, was transported by Arlington emergency personnel to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where she later succumbed to her injuries, according to police.

“This is a heartbreaking experience for the victim’s loved ones and for the community,” Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan said in a Friday statement. “An Arlington police officer happened upon the crash scene while on patrol and he, along with other Arlington first responders, went to extraordinary measures to save the woman.”

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. Orvis Road is one closer to Arlington Center than Lake Street (the Post Office is on the corner).

Driver Cited

The driver involved, Paul F. Giragosian, 67, of Arlington, was cited at the scene by Arlington police for operating without a license and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation by the Arlington Police Department, with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and an officer from the State Police crash reconstruction unit assisting. Additional charges may follow, police said.
