The driver told police that he was taking a left turn from Broadway onto Cleveland Street at the time of the incident. He said he had a green light and did not see the female, who was walking toward Arlington Center and was dressed in all black, until he struck her. He said he was going about 5 mph.

A witness told police that the driver did in fact have a green light and the female had the red “Do Not Cross” hand illuminated.
