UPDATED: Man Found with Multiple Stab Wounds Off Mass. Ave.

The man had life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Update 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12

According to the preliminary investigation, the man's wounds appear to be self-inflicted, Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan wrote in a Monday email. The man had wounds to both the chest and head, he wrote.

The man remained in serious condition at Beth Israel as of Monday morning, according to Ryan.

Arlington officers responded to the area behind Mirak Hyundai at 1165 Mass. Ave. at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday for an anonymous report of a man with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Officers soon located the man and started treating his injuries. The man was then transported to Beth Israel in Boston with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The man, a 56-year-old resident of Old Colony Lane, had been reported missing earlier in the day by a family member.

Officers are currently investigating the incident.

There is no reason to believe the incident was a random act, according to police, and police are investigating the possibility that the wounds were self inflicted.
