Male Treated for Hypothermia After Canoe Capsizes in Spy Pond

The male was canoeing with two friends Sunday evening.

Emergency personnel responded to Spy Pond shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday for a report that three males were in the water after their canoe capsized.

The males’ friends called police from shore after they witnessed the canoe capsize and lost sight of the three males. While police were talking to the friends on Spy Pond Parkway, the males, who had been able to swim to land, approached them. The males had been in the water about 5-10 minutes, police said.

One of the males was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge to be treated for hypothermia. The other two were not injured, according to police.
