Madison Avenue Man Charged with Assault with Intent to Murder

A Madison Avenue man was charged with assault with intent to murder Saturday after allegedly choking a woman in his residence early that morning.

After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Matthew T. McCormick, 30, was arrested by Merrimack College Police in North Andover at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday. McCormick was also charged with assault and battery as a result of the incident.

Police responded to McCormick’s residence at about 3 a.m. Saturday, where a woman said that McCormick had just choked her during an argument and then fled. The woman said McCormick choked her in the bedroom and then after she was able to fight free, pushed her to the ground and choked her again on a couch.

McCormick was also in a rage, she said, punching walls and doors.

After McCormick’s arrest in North Andover, he was returned to Arlington police.
