Injured Bicyclist: 'It Was All My Fault'

The bicyclist struck a vehicle head-on Thursday on Mass. Ave.

A bicyclist hit a vehicle head-on Thursday afternoon on Mass. Ave. when he was attempting to cross to the correct side of the street.

The bicyclist was traveling east (toward Arlington Center) in the westbound lane at about 12:50 p.m. when he tried to cross in front of DeVito Funeral Home and struck the vehicle, according to police.

The driver told police she swerved to avoid the bicyclist but the collision was unavoidable. He came out of nowhere at a high rate of speed, she said.

The bicyclist, who was lying on his back when police arrived, told police, “It was all my fault,” according to the police report.

Police cited him for failure to ride a bicycle on the correct side of the road.

The bicyclist refused further medical treatment.
