In Wake of Tragedy, Resident Collecting Donations for Arlington’s First Responders

A family of four was found dead in a Newland Road home Monday afternoon by Arlington first responders on a well-being check.

In the aftermath of Monday’s tragedy, a Park Avenue woman is collecting money and notes of appreciation for Arlington’s first responders.

“It’s a shame such an awful tragedy would be the thing that sparks this community outreach,” 37-year-old Lisa Brown said Wednesday, “but it’s so important that our first responders know that we’re there for them and appreciate what they do every single day.”

Brown, who works for a nonprofit that trains service dogs, said the money will be used to get pizza for the first responders. If additional money is raised, she said she’ll talk to Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan to see what else they would like.

Monetary donations (cash preferred) and notes can be dropped in Brown’s mail slot at 122 Park Ave. She's planning to deliver the pizza and notes to Arlington police officers Thursday, firefighters/EMTs Friday.

A married couple, Scott and Mei Kum Jones, both 43 of Arlington, and their infant twin sons, Colt and Cameron Jones, who would’ve turned 1 next week, were found dead Monday afternoon in their first-floor condo at 45 Newland Road.

Authorities have remained mum on the cause and manner of the deaths, as they’re awaiting autopsy results. They have said that it was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. They are also not looking for any additional suspects.

The couple was reportedly going through a “nasty divorce.” Scott Jones had threatened suicide in 2010, according to police.

“I think the entire community was shocked,” Brown said of the incident. “My thoughts went out to the family of the victims and, in large part, to the people that responded. I’m sure never in a million years were they expecting that’s what they would be dealing with on Monday.”
