Gun Buyback Event in September

Residents will be able to turn in their unwanted firearms and ammunition in exchange for grocery gift certificates.

The Arlington Police Department is teaming up with four local churches for a gun buyback event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Arlington Town Yard, 51 Grove St.

The churches are: Calvary Church United Methodist, Park Avenue Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Trinity Baptist Church and First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington.

Bob Baker, a member of Calvary Church, spearheaded the event.

At the event, residents will be able to turn in their unwanted firearms and ammunition in exchange for grocery gift certificates.

No questions asked

There will be no questions asked at the event and no ID required. Also, amnesty will be extended for gun law violations for Arlington residents traveling to the event between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Firearms should be brought to the event with empty chambers, clips or magazines unattached, safeties on and in a carrying case, box or other container.

The event organizers are currently soliciting donations for the grocery gift cards (more information).

The event is also in need of volunteers, and the rain date is Saturday, Oct. 5.
