UPDATE 5:16 a.m.: Photojournalist @SparkyThePit reports that, according to a police scanner transmission, the state medical examiner's office "will be in touch" with Malden officers investigating the crash.

While the office is responsible for investigating fatalities, no official word on the condition of any victims in the crash is yet available.

Original story, 4:00 a.m.: Medical responders reportedly found a "severely burned" female victim after a motor vehicle accident on Medford Street early Tuesday morning, though no further word on her condition was immediately available.

Crews responded to a motor vehicle accident near 500 Medford St. around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. One car was reportedly fully engulfed in flames but quickly put out by firefighters.

"I heard the loud noise from the crash of the sign, and then looked outside to see the car completely on fire," Resident Kelly Votolato said on Twitter.

Photographs show a simmering and totaled vehicle just before the Fellsway.

The Herald is reporting that she did not survive. That stretch of road has had a lot of accidents the last few years.

Been in this neighborhood since 71 and its allways been bad but lots worse now. So young so sad my heart goes out to the Families. Used to walk my dogs the whole strip of Medford Street and several times had cars jump the sidewalk and almost get me. They run the lights at all the intersections as well thinking there are no police presents. If you go the speed limit on Medford Street they come up behind you and blast their horns at ya.
