Jessica Campbell, an Arlington native and former Arlington High cheerleader, and her boyfriend were killed Saturday night when they were walking in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood and were struck by a vehicle after it collided with another.

Campbell, 27, and her boyfriend, John “Jack” Lanzilloti, 28, a productions and operations manager for the Boston Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe, were walking at Beacon and Fairfield streets at the time of the crash. Two vehicles collided at that intersection, rolled over and hit the couple, according to police.

Lanzilloti was pronounced dead at the scene, Campbell later at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The couple lived together in Brookline. Campbell worked for Kantar Retail and was a 2010 Northeastern University graduate.

According to the Boston Herald, one of the drivers, 26-year-old Ghuzlan Alghazali, of Allston, has been charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. (Update: Authorities dropped the charges against Alghazali Monday. However, new charges could be brought as the investigation continues, authorities said.)

This is so sad. Yet with this news, Arlington selectmen don't want to make pedestrians safer by narrowing Mass Ave in front of the Library, Town Hall, or by Whole Foods and the Baptist Church, all while proclaiming narrowing of Mass Ave in east Arlington would increase safety. When the next pedestrian and bicycle accidents happen in the stretch, thank Selectmen.

I suppose you think the FAA and NTSB are ghouls too for trying to improve safety following tragedy. Policies fail when not followed and Selectmen and TAC are not following their own nor those developed for the town's Master Plan.

The obituary for Jessica Campbell says she was from Pleasant Valley, New York. While it says she attended Arlington High School, it's not Arlington MA.
