Charge Dropped Against Stratton School Dad

Police sought a charge against the father after he got into a dispute with his son's principal.

A clerk magistrate decided Friday not to charge the Stratton Elementary School dad who allegedly showed his gun license during a June 4 argument with the school’s principal, according to WCVB.

Police sought a misdemeanor charge, making verbal threats to commit an assault, against 40-year-old Robert Goodwin.

Goodwin and Stratton School Principal Michael Hanna had a dispute over a drawing Goodwin’s son did, according to authorities.

At Friday’s probable cause hearing in Cambridge District Court, Hanna told the magistrate he did not feel threatened during the exchange, according to WHDH.

Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan said the department “will respect” Friday’s decision.

In addition to the charge, Goodwin received a no-trespass order from the school, had his gun license suspended and a firearm seized by police. These measures remain in effect, Ryan told the Boston Globe.
