UPDATED: Authorities Identify Deceased in Newland Road Home

UPDATED at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19:

The Boston Globe reports that Scott Jones threatened to kill himself two years ago, quoting a neighbor and “law enforcement official with knowledge of the incident.”

According to the Globe, Mei Kum Jones, a Bentley University graduate, was previously married from 2000 to 2004. Scott Jones was also previously married and had two kids with his ex-wife, according to the Globe.

Scott Jones had moved out a couple of days ago, as the couple was going through a divorce, Mei Kum Jones’ brother told the Globe.

Mei Kum Jones was an active member of the Arlington parent email list.

Authorities have identified the four people found dead in a Newland Road home Monday afternoon.

The deceased were a married couple, Scott Jones and Mei Kum Jones, both 43 of Arlington, and their twin sons, Colt and Cameron Jones, who would have turned 1 on Nov. 26, according to a Monday evening release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Mei Kum Jones worked at Road Scholar, a Boston-based educational travel company for adults. Scott Jones was a certified EMT, according to a WCVB report.

The couple was reportedly going through a “nasty divorce,” a family member told WBZ.

Arlington police were called to the residence at 45 Newland Road at about 12:07 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, for a well-being check and discovered the bodies upon arrival, according to authorities. Local and state police then immediately launched an investigation.

Authorities have determined that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public, according to the release. Authorities are not looking for any additional suspects.

The cause and manner of the deaths are pending autopsies by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan called it a “very troubling, very tragic situation.”

The family lived in the first-floor condo at 45-47 Newland Road – a gray two-family home with red and white trim just a block from Peirce Elementary School. Newland Road is a hilly side street between Bow and Summer streets with a mix of one- and two-family homes.

Neighbors said it’s a quiet neighborhood with lots of kids.

“It’s shocking,” neighbor Joe Hersey told reporters.

Investigators were at the scene Monday afternoon into the evening. They wore white cloth booties over their shoes when they entered the residence so they wouldn’t disturb the scene.

Newland Road was closed, as media set up at its intersection with Blossom Street.

Mei Kum Jones’ employer, Road Scholar, released the following statement:

"We at Road Scholar grieve the loss of our colleague, Mei Jones. Mei was a valued member of our team and her loss is deeply felt by all of us. As we grieve together, we can only imagine the impossible loss Mei's family must bear, and our deepest sympathies are with them. I'm sure you will understand, this is a terrible time for our community and we ask for your understanding as we grieve the loss of our colleague privately."
