A Homer Road resident called police at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to report an attempted break-in.
He said he and his family left the residence at about 6 p.m. on Christmas and returned home at 10:45 p.m. During that time, someone had tried to force open the home’s back door and cut a screen as well.
He believes the family dog may have scared off the would-be intruder.
