Arlington Woman Says She's OK After Weekend Crash

Julie Dumas, the Arlington woman who was involved in , only suffered abrasions and a broken clavicle.

Dumas emailed Waltham Patch Sunday to update her condition and correct her age and the year of her Honda Pilot given by State Police.

Dumas, 38, was said to have sustained “serious injuries” Saturday by police.

After striking the right-side guardrail and then a tractor-trailer at about 10:48 a.m., Dumas’ 2005 Honda Pilot struck the right-side guardrail again, and this time rolled over the guardrail near Exit 26 (under the Route 20 bridge), according to police. Dumas, who police believe was wearing her seatbelt, was ejected during the rollover, police said. She was transported from the scene to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston by Waltham EMS.

Dumas wrote that she is 38 and was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot (police initially had her as 39 and driving a 2009 Honda Pilot).

State Police Investigating Serious Crash in Waltham

(The State Police updated the press release Saturday evening identifying the driver of the Honda Pilot as 39-year-old Julie Dumas, of Arlington. On Sunday, Dumas emailed Waltham Patch and wrote that she is 38, not 39, and was driving a 2005, not 2009, Honda Pilot. Dumas’ corrections have been made below.)

Today at 10:48 a.m., troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Framingham responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 128/95 southbound at Exit 26, under the Route 20 bridge, in Waltham. The crash resulted in serious injuries to one operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Morrissey indicates that a [38-year-old] Arlington woman was operating a white [2005] Honda Pilot southbound in the left lane when she lost control of the sport utility vehicle.

The SUV drifted to the right across three lanes, off of roadway, then struck the guardrail, then veered back to the left and struck the right side of a 2009 International tractor-trailer traveling in the second travel lane. The SUV then crossed back to the right, struck the guardrail again, rolled over several times and came to rest on the right-side of the roadway. The operator is believed to have been wearing her seatbelt but, was ejected during the rollover and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Beth Israel Hospital by Waltham EMS.

The tractor-trailer was hauling tires and is owned by AYR Motor Express located at 46 Poplar St., Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, and was operated by Rosen Helge, 49, also of New Brunswick. Mr. Helge was not injured. Both vehicles were occupied by the operators only.

The two right lanes of the four lane highway were closed for approximately three hours to accommodate the removal and transport of the injured operator and preliminary crash investigation. The entire roadway was cleared and open for travel at approximately 1:25 p.m.

The two left lanes were not closed.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. Also assisting at the scene were the Waltham Fire Department, Waltham EMS and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Highway Division.
