Arlington Teen Arrested in East Somerville

The teen was arrested after allegedly being a passenger in a stolen car.

After three teenagers, including one from Arlington, bailed from a stolen car in East Somerville—in front of a police cruiser—the car rolled into a pay phone, ripping it off the wall, according to a Somerville police report.

Police ultimately arrested the three teens allegedly involved and charged them receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

The incident happened Friday at about 1:05 p.m. at the intersection of Pearl and Cross streets, according to the report.

The officer got out of his cruiser and chased one of them, Elvis Alvarez, 17, of 26 Kensington Ave., Somerville, onto Otis Street, where the teen threw a knife into a trash can before getting caught, the report says.

Meanwhile, witnesses saw the other two teens, Shawn Bulcao, 17, of 8 Patrick St., Arlington, and Matthew Closs, 19, of 454 Washington Ave., Chelsea, running across the McGrath Highway foot bridge, according to the report, which says police caught them on Radcliffe Road.

In addition to being charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, Alvarez was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. Closs was also charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and destruction of property (in this case, the pay phone.)
