Arlington Police Department Names ‘Officer of the Year’

See who took home one of the department's most prestigious awards.

The following is from the Arlington Police Department.

Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan is pleased to announce that Police Officer of the Year for 2013 has been awarded to Officer Scott Urquhart.

Officer Urquhart was presented with the designation during a recent annual awards ceremony that is part of the APD Employee Recognition Program.

Officer Urquhart has become a major asset to the department and carries himself as a seasoned veteran, even though he has only been with the Arlington Police Department for just over five years.

The attitude and work ethic that Officer Urquhart arrives with, for each shift, is consistently positive and he performs his duties at a highest level. As a patrolman, he has gained the confidence of his supervisors that he can handle any situation that arises on his shift. He carries himself in a professional manner and has demonstrated that he can keep his composure and stay level-headed on all calls for service.

Officer Urquhart has also shown that he is willing to get involved beyond his regular patrol duties. He was selected and received training to become part of the Field Training Program for new officers. As with all of his assignments, Officer Urquhart is aware of how his position can have a positive influence in the community. Throughout the year he donates his personal time assisting at the Boys and Girls Club.

In the future, Officer Urquhart will continue to be a model for others to look to for guidance.

“Please join me in congratulating Officer Urquhart,” said Chief Frederick Ryan. “He is to be commended for his faithful and conscientious performance of duty and his efforts to affirmatively promote and support the mission of the Arlington Police Department.”
