Arlington Named One Of America’s Safest Communities

See where it ranked.

Arlington is one of the United States’ safest communities, according to NeighborhoodScout.

Arlington placed 78th on the list of 100 “Safest Cities 2014.”

NeighborhoodScout scans crime data of communities with more than 25,000 people. Crimes can include: burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

According to NeighborhoodScout, the data for this year’s list is fully vetted and complete with data that was reported to the FBI in 2012.

A new list will be formed when the 2013 crime stats are finalized by the FBI in the fall of 2014.

In addition to Arlington, several Massachusetts communities made the Top 100 list, including:

  • Marshfield - 79
  • Billerica - 76
  • Melrose - 73
  • Belmont - 67
  • Newton - 60
  • Milton - 52
  • Dracut - 48
  • Agawam - 40
  • Needham - 26
  • Wellesley - 24
  • Andover - 22
  • Reading - 13
  • Shrewsbury – 10
  • Lexington - 7

And the No. 1 safest community in America is also a Massachusetts town: Franklin.

These ranking appear to be based on crimes reported in 2012. It's doubtful that Arlington will make the safest communities list next time around based on 2013's crime statistics.

LOL at anyone who thinks Arlington isn't safe. Seriously, just cause who ever runs the patch over here posts every little arrest, doesn't mean your city isn't safe. You guys don't have to deal with a fraction of the crime that goes on in surrounding cities- Medford, Somerville, Everett, and Malden.

@ West Meffa, in 2009, Malden was named the "Best Place to Raise Your Kids" in Massachusetts by Bloomberg. Peoples then determined that their Section 8 entitlement dollars would go just as far in Malden as they would in Dorchester or Roxbury. Then came the gangs, street culture and organized crime.
