Arlington Man Flips Off Police in Mug Shot

An Arlington man allegedly punched a pregnant woman multiple times Tuesday evening on the Minuteman bike path, near Spy Pond Field.

Shawn D. Powers, 46, of Old Colony Lane, spotted the woman and a man, both of whom he knew, shortly before 7 p.m., got off of his bicycle and started punching them, according to police. Powers was drunk and belligerent, the victims told police.

The woman said she was struck in the stomach area and complained of stomach pain at the scene. She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Powers was later arrested at his residence and charged with assault and battery against a pregnant woman and assault and battery. He flipped off police in his mug shot at the station.
