A 23-year-old Arlington man was arrested Thursday by State Police for operating under the influence after an .
John A. Carvalho, of Crosby Street, allegedly crashed his mother’s car while drunk at about 2 a.m. on Mystic Valley Parkway, at Hayes Street in Arlington, and then fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived.
Arlington Police soon located Carvalho in another vehicle near his home. Carvalho had called a woman for a ride, and police were able to focus the search for Carvalho from the scene to his home, as he left his cell phone behind in his mother’s car, which helped police identify him as the possible driver.
An Arlington officer noticed an “obvious odor” of alcohol coming from Carvalho before State Police made the arrest, as Mystic Valley Parkway is a state road.
In addition to OUI, Carvalho was charged with leaving the scene of property damage, speeding and a marked lanes violation. His vehicle sustained heavy damage, and all of its airbags deployed.
