Arlington Man Arrested After Alleged Assault on Dorothy Road

Arlington Police responded to Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday to speak with the alleged victim of an assault that had just been reported in Arlington.

Once there, officers spoke to the victim’s girlfriend, as the victim was unable to speak clearly due to his injuries, which included “major swelling” to the left side of his face and a swollen-shut left eye, according to police.

The victim’s girlfriend told police that she witnessed the incident, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Dorothy Road and Margaret Street. She said the suspect boxed in her boyfriend’s car and then punched him in the face while he was still sitting in the vehicle. She said the suspect continued to punch her boyfriend after he exited the vehicle and after he fell to the ground. While her boyfriend was on the ground, the suspect also kicked him in the face, she said.

The alleged victim was able to confirm his girlfriend's accounts.

Police soon arrested Paul M. Ventura, 26, of Arlington, for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot).

Police had actually spoken with Ventura and his brother earlier in the night, as Ventura’s brother called police because he said that someone had told his brother that people were going to “get him” after the earlier altercation.

 

Arlington Woman Arrested for A&B, Drug Possession

Laura E. DeCelles, 22, of Arlington, was arrested by Arlington Police at about 3:58 p.m. Saturday on Morton Road and charged with assault and battery, and being in possession of a Class B substance.

Bicyclist Struck by Motor Vehicle

A bicyclist riding toward Belmont on Pleasant Street at about 8:41 a.m. Saturday was struck by a motor vehicle turning onto Gray Street, according to police.

The bicyclist was in a crosswalk at the time of the incident, police said. The vehicle struck his rear tire.

The bicyclist suffered a scraped knee and was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Kitchen Equipment Stolen from Sunrise Assisted Living

A commercial-grade grill and an oven, worth $10,000 combined, were reported stolen from at about 10 a.m. Friday, according to police.

The items were taken from behind the complex while its kitchen was being remodeled, the reporting party told police. They went missing sometime between Saturday, July 28, and Wednesday, Aug. 1, he said.
