Arlington High School Athletic Director Subject of Ongoing Criminal Investigation

Edward "Ted" Dever has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to Superintendent Kathleen Bodie.

Athletic Director Edward “Ted” Dever is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by the Arlington Police Department and Middlesex District Attorney’s office, according to Arlington Superintendent Kathleen Bodie Wednesday. Dever has been placed on paid administrative leave, she wrote in an email.

The investigation involves allegations of “certain criminal conduct,” she wrote. “While we cannot comment on the allegations or on the investigation, we are unaware of any allegations of conduct that involves the operation of the Arlington High School athletic programs or of the Arlington Public Schools,” she added.

Arlington Police Chief Fred Ryan confirmed the ongoing investigation Wednesday. “There is an ongoing investigation,” he wrote in an email. “If and when it results in a criminal complaint or and/or indictment, the public will be notified.”

Prior to being named athletic director in 2007, Dever was a guidance counselor at the high school. Before that, he was a guidance counselor at .

The Athletic Director has been placed on administrative leave with pay after notification from the Arlington Police Department that he is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office involving allegations of certain criminal conduct. The Superintendent has concluded that the best interests of Arlington Public Schools and its student-athletes are served by leave pending the outcome of the investigation of these allegations. This action is not a determination that the allegations are true. While we cannot comment on the allegations or on the investigation. we are unaware of any allegations of conduct that involves the operation of the Arlington High School athletic programs or of the Arlington Public Schools.
