Arlington firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze shortly after their arrival, police said.

The resident told authorities he kept work equipment in the shed and a faulty wire may have caused the fire.

Cornell Street

A fire broke out under the front porch of a Cornell Street residence in East Arlington at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police officers were able to put out much of the blaze with fire extinguishers from their vehicles, according to police. Firefighters then did the rest, police said.

A neighbor told police that nearby residents had been smelling smoke for the past couple days but had not been able to pinpoint its origin.

Mountain Avenue

A Mountain Avenue resident called authorities Saturday night after a ceiling fan began smelling like smoke.

The fan, which had faulty wiring, was removed from the home, which did not suffer any other damage.
