2 Pedestrians Hit in Mass. Ave. Crosswalk

The pedestrians, both of Arlington, were seriously injured.

A 73-year-old Winchester man struck two pedestrians, both of Arlington, in a Mass. Ave. crosswalk in East Arlington Friday night.

The crash occurred at about 9:26 p.m. near Mass. Ave. and Tufts Street. The victims were a 24-year-old Arlington man and 26-year-old Arlington woman. Both were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious injuries.

Following an initial investigation, the driver was cited for two counts of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The area of Mass. Ave. where the crash took place is part of the Mass. Ave. Corridor Project, a $6.8 million renovation to the road, in part to improve pedestrian safety, expected to begin this summer.

In December, a 77-year-old Cambridge woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in a crosswalk a couple blocks closer to Capitol Square.
