Week in Preview: Pledge of Allegiance Issue Back in the Spotlight

It is going to be a hot one with a couple interesting meetings and sporting events.

It is going to be an interesting week in Arlington.

Tuesday night, the Policies and Procedures Subcommittee of the Arlington School Committee will meet to discuss the Pledge of Allegiance, an issue that shined the national spotlight on Arlington last month after a student's plea to reinsitate the pledge at the high school was shot down at the June 22 School Committee meeting 3 – 3.

The Subcommittee will discuss a new policy, working off the draft School Committee Chairman Joseph Curro proposed two weeks ago in addition to other drafts proposed by School Committee Members Judson Pierce (the chairman of the subcomitee) and Jeffrey Thielman.

The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Safety Building.

Tuesday night will also see an information meeting about proposed bus shelters on Mass. Ave. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

In sports, Arlington softball plays Chelmsford Tuesday night at the Bishop School and Arlington Senior Ruth Pond Rats play the Malden Marlins Friday night at Summer Street Field.

The weather this week is expected to stay unseasonably warm, so it is a great week to head to the Arlington Reservoir or just cool off in the backyard with a sprinkler and a cool drink.
