Rep. Carl Sciortino voted to allow a convicted woman abuser to remain in the Massachusetts legislature.

It's been nearly a century since the Massachusetts legislature voted to expel one of their own but they did so yesterday. With a roll call vote of 146-5, the House of Representatives voted to expel former State Representative Carlos Henriquez who was convicted of assault and battery of a female victim. Mr. Henriquez is currently serving jail time and was given an opportunity to address the legislature before the vote took place. MassLive.com wrote about it and you may read it here. Before expelling Mr. Henriquez, several lawmakers proposed a lesser punishment of "censure" which ultimately failed by a vote of 143-10. In the next few days, we will score lawmakers on these two roll call votes and update our legislative scorecard, which you may view at www.massfiscalscorecard.org.
