Not all sidewalks can support outdoor seating

As much as I am a fan of both frozen yogurt and cafe seating, I think the recent decision by the Arlington BOS to allow Yummy's to have sidewalk seating was ill-considered.  Some sidewalks just aren't wide enough to sacrifice more than half their width for a private commercial venture.  In the case of Yummy's, as the attached photo shows, anyone parking in that space on Mass. Ave. cannot exit the passenger side of a vehicle and use the sidewalk.  I think this unfortunate decision is part of a bigger issue that the BOS and ARB are far too eager to say "yes" to anything commercial establishments want without regard for the real impact on residents and especially on abutters. These changes are not for the better.
