New bike lane striping at cost of parking/bus lane widths

I've gotten more details on the DPW plan shown to Selectmen Monday night on Mass Ave. roadway painting west of Jason/Mill Streets. The width of Mass Ave where new bike lane striping areas are proposed is 50 feet. To squeeze in 5' bike lanes with 12' travel lanes (its route 2A, an arterial, and truck route, so appropriate) means narrowing the parking lanes / bus stops and door zone buffer for cyclists down to only 8'. The town's design consultants for the Mass Ave Corridor Project discouraged this, claiming 10' were needed and thus 4 travel lanes shouldn't be used. Some hypocrisy by the town to get bike lanes, safe or not, huh?
