Is Litter Ruining the New Alewife Brook Greenway?

At least one resident thinks so. What'd you think? Let us know by posting a comment below.

We recently received an email from a concerned resident about the amount of litter along the new Alewife Brook Greenway, which opened last fall.

The resident specifically pointed out the area under the new ramp near Broadway and Alewife Brook Parkway – the attached photos show just some of the trash, including a number of beer cans (there is also some old furniture as well).

“It’s just disgusting and a real blight on what should be a great addition to East Arlington,” the resident wrote.

The 2.5-mile Greenway, which runs through parts of Somerville and Cambridge too, was funded by a $3.6 million grant from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to a Boston.com report.

Do you think litter is ruining the Greenway? And if so, what should be done? Let us know by posting a comment below.
