Arlington's Assessor Escapes

Rumor has it that Arlington Assessor John Speidel is no longer an employee, even though the Town website lists him as the Director of Assessments.  Word started circulating when Speidel failed to attend Town Meeting the last two weeks.  Instead members were graced by the presence of Assessor Jim Doherty who failed to mention Speidel's status.  We heard that Speidel was sick seeing all the real estate shenanigans between developers, real estate brokers, town officials and elected officials.  One needs to look no further than the assessments of some officials, Doherty and Dunn to name a few, to see what might have triggered a conscience attack.  No doubt Bob Greeley, former Director of Assessments, current executive director of the Town credit union and brother of his most royal excellency King Kevin Greeley, will be paid in the interim to 'train' Speidel's replacement in the arcane methods of Arlington's property tax assessments.
