Rita Mary Ready passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on August 22, 2013.
Rita attended St. John’s High School in Cambridge, where she met the love of her life, John C. Ready. They married on June 16, 1945, and were blessed with a family of eight children. Rita and John raised their family in Arlington, where she was very involved in the community. She was the first president of the Arlington Catholic High School Mother’s Guild and on the board of the Middlesex South Medical Auxiliary.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, John, her children Elizabeth, Kathleen and husband Paul Smith, Sharon Laughlin, John C. Ready, Jr., Janet and husband Curtis Brown, Francis Ready, Rita Shea Ready, and her husband Kevin O’Donovan and grandchildren, Patrick Smith, Kristin Roberto, Marty, Jon, and Ryan Laughlin, Sheila Laughlin Morrison, John and Brendan Ready, Curtis and Brett Brown, Michelle Brown Demers, Joseph and Chris Decereau Ready, and Casey and Isabella O’Donovan and sixteen great grandchildren. Her daughter, Sheila who passed away at four months of age in 1950, and her son- in- law, Marty Laughlin, predeceased Rita.
The family will hold visitation at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, Arlington, MA on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 10-11 a.m., followed by mass at St. Agnes Church at 11 a.m., and burial will be immediately following at Mt.
