Obituary: Gerald Joseph O'Neill

Gerald Joseph O'Neill passed away Thursday, Nov. 22.

Gerald Joseph O'Neill, July 20, 1924-Nov. 22, 2012. Inventor chemist, W.R. Grace and Company - Retired. Born in Buckingham, Quebec, he was the son of the late William O'Neill and Edna McCormick. Beloved husband of the late Louise (Cassasa) of Everett. Dear brother of Rita Tremblay of Buckingham, Que., and Desmond, deceased in 2001. Dear uncle of Susan Thompson of Boston. Survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada and the U.S. Gerald worked his university summers for the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, while pursuing a BSC and Masters at McGill University in Montreal, Que. Studied for his Doctorate at Western University in London Ontario. Accepted a position with Monsanto Chemicals in Boston in 1957 and later moved to W.R. Grace and Company as a research chemist where he held many patents. Gerald retired in 1998. Arrangements were held by the Keefe Funeral Homes, ARLINGTON, and CAMBRIDGE.
