Obituary: Dorothy Elinor Thomas

Dorothy Elinor Thomas, of Arlington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13. She was 93.

Ms. Dorothy Elinor Thomas, 93, of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 13. Her memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cambridge on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m.

Ms. Thomas was born on May 5, 1919, to Ann Ellen (Mack) and Capt. James Monroe Thomas in New Orleans. As a child her family lived in Panama City, Fla., where her father was stationed in the Navy. Her family moved to Boston where she pursued her education and later spent her career working in the finance department of The McLean Hospital.

Ms. Thomas’ spiritual life, volunteering, reading, sewing and spending time with her friends and family were her passions. She was always a cheerful and positive person. Ms. Thomas was an active member of Christ Church Cambridge for over 60 years. She spent countless hours volunteering for the church Thrift Shop and serving as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of The Thursday Friends and faithfully counted the offerings each and every Monday. Ms. Thomas also enjoyed her many adventures traveling abroad and visiting her family around the country. During her retirement years Ms. Thomas enjoyed living at both The Cambridge Home for many years and then at The Park Avenue Nursing Home.

Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lillian Blackburn Thomas Wigg, and her niece, Patricia Rudgard Wigg Schupp.

Ms. Thomas is survived by her nephew, Clayton Maddock Rudgard Wigg and family; great niece, Anne Rudgard Schupp Royer and family; great great niece Sarah Elizabeth Royer Oliver and family; great great nephew Robert W. Royer III and family; great nephew Christopher H.Schupp and family; great great niece Sarah Schupp Fiester and family; and her great great nephew Christopher S. Schupp and family.

Our family would like to thank The Cambridge Home and Park Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and her many wonderful friends at Christ Church for the amazing care and friendship they all extended to our wonderful Aunt Elinor.
