Obituary: Carol McNally, Longtime Dearborn Academy Teacher

McNally taught at the academy in Arlington for 30 years.

The following is from DeVito Funeral Home.

Carol McNally, of Arlington, died Friday, April 18.

Daughter of the late William F. McNally and Lois R. (Stender) McNally, Carol leaves behind her brother James J. McNally of Waltham and her sister Ruth A. McNally of Arlington.

Carol was a middle school teacher at Dearborn Academy in Arlington for 30 years, where she taught students with emotional and learning difficulties. Carol was known for her deep commitment to her job and her students. She was always one of the first teachers to arrive at school in the mornings when she readied her classroom and worked on individualizing lessons for her students. Students thrived in her classes because they could feel her deep caring for them and willingness to do whatever she could to help them deal with the complicated situations in their lives. Students would flock back to see her, whether they moved on to the in-house high school or transferred to another school.

Carol received a master's degree from Lesley College in education and did her undergraduate work at Northeastern University. Carol also held three teaching certifications in elementary education, special needs and reading.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Carol's name to a no-kill animal shelter of your choice.
