Obituary: Bernard J. Smith, Town of Arlington Employee

Smith died Saturday, Nov. 9.

Bernard J. “Bernie” Smith, of Arlington, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 after extended illness.

Beloved husband of Joan (Slocum) Smith, loving father of Susan and Ralph Pinto of Sudbury, Sandra and Jason Jones of Arlington, and Lynda and Bruce Tait of Weymouth, and cherished “Bumpa” of Katie and Joseph Pinto, Devon and Ryan Jones, and Elizabeth and Cameron Tait. Brother of the late Frances Mooney. Uncle of Judith Brooks of Connecticut and Edward Mooney of New Hampshire.

U.S. Army veteran, 30-year employee of the MBTA, and 10-year employee of the Town of Arlington. Longtime usher at St. Jerome’s Church and Cemetery Commissioner of Mt. Pleasant. Avid Red Sox fan.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, especially those in the dialysis unit, the staff at Park Avenue Nursing and Rehab and the EMTs at Armstrong Ambulance.

Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours at the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Route 60 (adjacent to St. Agnes Church), ARLINGTON, on Wednesday, 9-10:30 a.m., followed by his funeral mass in St. Raphael Church, Medford at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
