Bicyclist Crashes Into Pregnant Woman on Bike Path

A bicyclist crashed into a woman, who was 35 weeks pregnant, on the Minuteman bike path Sunday afternoon.

The collision knocked the woman to the ground. She was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge for further evaluation of her injuries, police said.

According to police, the male bicyclist was traveling toward Arlington Center on the bike path behind Arlington High School at about 3:15 p.m. when he attempted to pass the woman, who was walking in the same direction. The bicyclist then saw an oncoming bicyclist and swerved back over, hitting the woman, police said.

The bicyclist told police he understood the crash was his fault, according to police. The bicyclist had cuts on his hands and right knee. He refused treatment at the scene.
