Arlington’s Cub Scout Pack 302 invites boys in 1st through 5th grade to our annual Recruitment Night – but only if they are interested in having fun and finding adventure!

The event is Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Fox Library Meeting Room, and the whole family is invited. At Recruitment Night you and your family can talk with boys who are already Scouts; meet the leaders, who are all parents of Arlington kids; play games; get a sampling of our activities; and of course, enjoy snacks!

Cub Scout Pack 302 always offers a year’s worth of fun and meaningful activities. Last year we hiked, camped, collected food for the Arlington Food Bank, went snow tubing, attended a Lowell Spinners’ game and slept overnight on their field, visited the Science Museum, and went caroling during the holidays, along with a lot of other fun and educational things. A major highlight of the year is the annual Pinewood Derby, for which boys plan, build and race wooden cars in a friendly but spirited contest to find out whose car is the fastest.

In Cub Scouts, boys learn important skills for life such as cooking, proper and safe use of tools, keeping healthy, staying safe, helping other people, taking care of pets, protecting the environment, saving money, and respecting others. As they master these skills, they earn badges that are proudly displayed on their uniforms. During the group’s one annual fundraiser, the boys sell popcorn, which greatly reduces the cost of membership to their families, which is already less than $75 per year.

“Our kids are very busy,” said Courtney Jackson, Pack 302’s new committee chair and the first mom to hold that post. “So Cub Scout Pack 302 works hard to identify types of activities that are not offered by other organizations in the area. We’re one of the few youth groups that helps boys to become better scholars, athletes and artists. As parents, we want all of our boys to grow into competent, well-informed, well-rounded citizens.”

Cub Scout Pack 302 has even more fun planned for this year – visit us at Recruitment Night on Tuesday, Sept. 18, to learn more!
