Arlington-Belmont Crew Wins Three Medals at State Championship Regatta

AB Crew had a great season, finishing with three bronze medals at the state championships.

A-B Crew recently traveled to the Merrimack River in Lowell to compete in the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association (MPSRA) Spring State Championships. One-hundred-seventy entries from 19 rowing clubs, representing 16 cities in Massachusetts competed on the 1,500-meter course Sunday, May 27. It was a beautiful day for rowers and spectators alike.

A-B Crew’s Boys Novice 4 captured a bronze medal in their finals after coming in second in their first heat: Coxswain Brenna Sorkin, stroke Guy Parsons and Nick Osborn of Belmont and Sam Magill-Dohan and Trevor Brown of Arlington.

A-B Crew’s Boys 1st Novice 8 also won a bronze medal in their finals after coming in second in their first heat: Coxswain Emily Savarese of Belmont, stroke Max Halliday, Marcus Dardompre, Kevin Wang and Evan Duffy of Arlington, Ekim Otucu of Belmont, John O’Brien, Ben Goebel and Jonathan Daniels of Arlington.

A-B Crew’s Girls 2nd Varsity 4 collected a bronze medal in their final: Coxswain Daphne Schermer, stroke Jill Carney, Katherine Delaney and Aurelle Albano of Belmont, and Cady Trvalik of Arlington.

For the first time A-B Crew entered a rower to compete in a singles race. Senior Ellen Osborn of Belmont came very close to winning a bronze medal, finishing just seconds behind Medford Crew.

Each of the rower’s teams combined hard work and skill contributed to earning A-B Crew an overall total of 51 points, coming in fifth out of the 19 rowing clubs competing. The Girls team came in fourth overall, just missing a championship trophy by one place. Coaches Laura Rothman (varsity girls), Miranda Courant-Morgan (novice girls), Mark Grinberg (novice boys) and Chris Courtin (varsity boys), along with assistant coaches Rebekah Meyer and Sarah Taylor were happy with the results of their hard work this season.
