Arlington-Belmont Crew Wins Golds at Moose on the Malden

Arlington-Belmont Crew race results, May 19-20.

Arlington-Belmont Crew’s varsity rowers headed out to Worcester this weekend to participate in the 3rd Annual USRowing Northeast Junior District Championships on Saturday, May 19.

The AB Crew boys varsity 4+ made it the semi-finals, and the 2nd varsity boys 4+ and 2nd varsity girls 4+ made it all the way to the finals on Sunday, May 20, battling against some of the region’s best rowing teams. The boys varsity 4+ came in fourth place in their semi-final race (Lena Schermer (cox) and Sam Lessin of Belmont and Andrew Friedman, Brian O’Neill and Jacy Loshin of Arlington). In the finals, the boys 2nd varsity 4+ (Jessi Kirchner (cox), Jeff Echmalian, Nathan Canada and Zach Guion of Arlington and Ian Gilchrist of Belmont), and the girls 2nd varsity 4+  (with Belmont’s Hannah Pratt (cox), Helena Awad, Lizzy Thidemann and Sarah Kolenbrander and Arlington’s Claire Stevens-Luneau) both came in fifth place.

The fourth annual Moose on the Malden Regatta took place on Sunday, May 20, and was a great day for AB Crew. AB Crew’s novice boys and girls teams rowed in both novice and varsity races against 12 teams from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Connecticut.

Winning gold were: boys novice 4+ (Max Halliday, Mitchell Kwok, John O'Brien and Ali Farahani, all of Arlington, with coxswain Brenna Sorkin of Belmont), girls novice 8+ (Andrea Abanto (cox), Catherine Tiffany, Sara Hamilton, Abby Burden, Beth Young and Julia Blass of Arlington and Olivia Cronin, Sarah Osborn and Lizzie Ferrante of Belmont), girls 3rd novice 8+ (Ellie Cayer (cox), Anna VanBenschoten, Sarah Hamilton, Catherine Tiffany, Katie Cornell, Catherine Jacob-Dolan, Beth Young and Julia Blass of Arlington and Olivia Cronin of Belmont) and girls novice 4+ (Ellie Cayer (cox), Anna VanBenschoten and Abby Burden of Arlington and Sarah Osborn and Anna Handte-Reinecker of Belmont).

The boys novice 8+ won silver after all-out effort, finishing just one second behind Bedford, N.H. Rowing were Belmont’s Ekim Otucu and Arlington’s Max Halliday, Marcus Dardompre, Kevin Wang, Evan Duffy, John O'Brien, Ben Goebel and Trevor Brown, with Lena Giguere (cox).
