Late Arlington Resident Named ‘EMS Nurse of the Year’

The award was from the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council.

Late Arlington resident Elaine Valerio, who died in November 2012, recently received the “EMS Nurse of the Year” award posthumously from the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council.

“Elaine was an outstanding nurse and dedicated to EMS and its providers,” said Bill Mergendahl, CEO of Professional Ambulance (Pro EMS), who nominated Valerio for the award. “We were fortunate to have such an outstanding resource and friend as an EMS nurse. She loved to teach and that came through clearly to every paramedic student who visited her ER.”

Valerio was employed by the Cambridge Health Alliance for the last five years.
