Why Native Plant Landscapes Matter

Claudia Thompson, founder of the horticultural organization Grow Native Massachusetts, believes native plant landscapes are essential to our future, helping to support human health, organic food production, and biodiversity as a whole. Thompson, who has served as Director of Education for the Appalachian Mountain Club and as Director of Drumlin Farm for Mass. Audubon, is the featured speaker at the December meeting of the Somerville Garden Club. Come consider the co-evolution of plants and animals, the ecological importance of your garden, and discuss ways to better steward this planet.

The Somerville Garden Club meets monthly; all meetings are free and the public is encouraged to attend. Each meeting includes club announcements, a horticultural question and answer session, a lecture or demonstration, and a raffle of donated plants and garden-related items. Parking is available on site, and the building is a short walk from the Davis Square T station. Meetings are on the second floor, wheelchair accessible.
