Radio Free Boston: An Evening with Disc Jockey and Author Carter Alan

Longtime Boston disc jockey Carter Alan comes to Arlington Community Education to discuss his new book "Radio Free Boston: The Rise and Fall of WBCN". From 1968 until 2009, WBCN both pioneered and defined progressive rock radio, sustaining a vibrant local music scene that launched such artists as the J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, James Taylor, Boston, the Cars, and the Dropkick Murphys. Join the Conversation to discuss - with someone who was there through it all - this story of a city in tumult, of artistic freedom, of music and politics and identity, and of the cultural, technological, and financial forces that killed rock radio. Moderated by NPR music critic Tim Riley, and co-sponsored by Robbins Library and the Arlington Advocate. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Admission $5. Pre-register at www.ArlingtonCommunityEd.org or call 781 316-3568. Walk-ins welcome as space permits.
