OPENING RECEPTION for Personal Terrain: Contemporary Mapping

Concord Art Association presents an exhibit of work by eleven Boston artists entitledPersonal Terrain: Contemporary Mapping. The exhibit, which opens April 16, examines (and attempts to understand) an individual’s place in the world. Participating artists include: Mary ArmstrongLinda BondPhyllis EwenJane GoldmanBarbara Grad,Jerry Gretzinger, Chris HassigIlana ManolsonBruce MyrenHeddi Siebel and Heidi Whitman.

Artist and curator Manolson comments, “Maps provide a visual language we use to locate ourselves in the world. I am fascinated, by the infinite possibilities, both literal and metaphorical, maps can depict. Maps allow us to explore boundaries, travel, time, space and identity. Each map in the Personal Terrain show embodies the creator’s particular perspective. I have chosen artists who are mapping their own adventures, some by creating individual worlds others by looking at natural disaster politics, and others through their experience of time and memory. In this day where your GPS will do all the navigational work for you, it is my pleasure to offer a show of artist’s maps which delineate their personal terrain.”
