Featuring Charles Blandy, Iveria, Arlington Ward Choir Conducted by Margaret Moore, & Bardic Circle
Charles Blandy has been described as “a versatile tenor with agility,
endless breath, and vigorous high notes” (Goldberg Early Music Magazine)
and “unfailingly, tirelessly lyrical” (Boston Globe). With Emmanuel
Music in Boston he has sung the title role in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s
Progress, the Evangelists in Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew Passions,
major roles in Handel’s Ariodante and Mozart’s Magic Flute, and appeared
in John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby. In recent years he has sung
Handel’s Messiah with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, and the American
Bach Soloists in San Francisco; at Lincoln Center with the National
Chorale; with the Bethlehem Bach Choir, Charlotte Symphony, Boston
Modern Orchestra Project, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera Boston, Handel
and Hayden Society, Boston Baroque, and the Cantata Singers. He was a
Tanglewood fellow, and has degrees from Indiana University and Oberlin
College. He is originally from Troy, NY.
Marc Aaron Butler sang as a member of Iveria from 1992 - 2012 when he
died, with his last public performance being in the Regent Theater on
7/8/2013. Iveria are a group of men who sing Georgian liturgical and
folk music. The group was originally formed as an offshoot of the Yale
Russian Chorus in 1985, when a few members decided to further pursue the
music of the Republic of Georgia. We are based in the greater Boston
area, and have a sister group based in New York state, the Kartuli
Ensemble.
Marc Aaron Butler sang in LDS Ward Choirs and the Michigan Mormon
Concert Choir, beginning in 1980; the music of praise was the love of
his life. He sang as a member of the Arlington Ward LDS Choir from
1983 - 2012, with his last performance with the Arlington Ward LDS Choir
being in the Regent Theater. The choir plans to sing some of Marc’s
favorite hymns. The Arlington Ward Choir is a group of local performers
from the Boston area, primarily from the Arlington Ward of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are quite adept at
performing choral music from across the ages.
Marc Aaron Butler loved heritage music from all parts of the world. He
especially loved Gaelic folk songs such as those popular at modern day
renaissance fairs. such as the songs re-popularized during the folk
music revival of the 1970’s by such groups as the Clancy Brothers and
Tommy Makem, the Wolfe Tones, and many others. Bardic Circle are a
passionate group of Singers who specialize in RenFaire music.
