Boston Minuteman Council Hosts Salute to Scouting Gala

Scouts Honor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and UMass Boston Chancellor Keith Motley

October 26, 2012 (Boston, MA) – The Boy Scouts of America Boston Minuteman Council will host its 36th Annual “Salute to Scouting” gala at Boston’s Seaport Hotel on Monday November 5.  The event is the youth organization’s signature fundraiser and each year draws a large crowd of business and civic leaders who support the Boy Scouts in the greater Boston area.  The gala will feature the presentation of the “Second Century of Leadership Award” to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the “Theodore L. Storer Good Scout Award” to Keith Motley, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts CEO Andrew Dreyfus and Chairman of the Board William Van Faasen will both be on hand to accept the Second Century of Leadership Award.  This award is presented annually to a company or organization that consistently sets the pace for corporate leadership and philanthropic support of the Greater Boston community.

UMass Boston Chancellor Keith Motley is being honored with the Storer Good Scout Award for his service to the public and community in the same tradition and commitment as the man whom the award is named, Theodore L. Storer, who was well-known for his extraordinary interest in the welfare of others and ability to raise corporate support for philanthropic causes.

“Both Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Chancellor Motley exemplify the best of what Scouting is all about,” said Chuck Eaton, Chief Executive, Boy Scouts Boston Minuteman Council.  “They have made our communities better and families stronger by supporting programs such as Scouting that bonds children and families through shared experiences,” he said.
