NSTAR Hits Estimate, Arlington Back Up and Running

Also, a Hollywood movie filming in Downtown Woburn and postseason soccer gets underway.

Today is Friday, Nov. 2. Here are five things you need to know:

1.) NSTAR came through on its Thursday night prediction, as Arlington’s power situation returned to normal last night, according to the company’s outage map. Residents who had their electricity restored last night likely went more than 72 hours without it. At the height of Hurricane Sandy Monday evening, more than 3,000 of NSTAR’s Arlington customers were without power.

2.) Hollywood Movie Filming in Downtown Woburn Today: Larry David’s new HBO movie, “Clear History,” a comedy with a star-studded cast that includes Michael Keaton, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Amy Ryan, is filming today at the local newspaper stand Moore & Parker at 375 Main St. in Woburn. On Thursday, filming took place from about 3-8 p.m. See the attached photos of David in Woburn.

3.) The 17th-seeded Arlington Catholic girls’ soccer team (8-7-3) will go on the road to face No. 16 Swampscott (8-6-4) at 2 p.m. today in the preliminary round of the Division 2 North bracket. The ninth-seeded Spy Ponders (11-4-3) earned a bye in the same bracket and will open play at neighboring No. 8 Belmont (10-3-3) at 4 p.m. Sunday.

4.) From the town: AFD Reminds Residents: No Open Burning: Arlington is 1 of 22 communities in which open burning is not allowed due to the density of population and the close proximity of buildings. The limits on open burning do not apply to outdoor cooking, such as grills. Outdoor cooking appliances are defined as grills powered by LP, charcoal, or electricity. However, chimeneas, outdoor fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and similar appliances designed for the primary purpose of heat and burning, are strictly prohibited and not allowed for use in the Town of Arlington. AFD will extinguish fires created by these appliances and violations may incur significant penalties. For details, please visit arlingtonma.gov/fire.
