Man Robbed Twice in an Hour

One man had a rough Saturday afternoon in Arlington.

A man had his iPod Touch stolen while he was in Arlington Center Saturday afternoon and then his bicycle taken on North Union Street about an hour later.

The man told police at about 3:05 p.m. Saturday that a man with a “fat face” had just asked to use his bicycle and that when he said, “No,” the man hopped on and took off. The suspect headed toward Broadway on North Union Street, he said.

The bicycle was valued at about $400.

The iPod Touch theft occurred near Swan Place and Mass. Ave., the man said.

That's unfortunate but Arlington, like Roxbury and Dorchester isn't the safest community and crime is rampant here.

While crime has gone up in the last decade, it certainly isn't "rampant", it's much lower on average for a Mass. town/city of its size. Property crimes are much more prevalent than violent crime, which is pretty low. http://www.cityrating.com/crime-statistics/massachusetts/arlington.html#.UbiR7ec3vQ0

Crime seems to be trending up in town. Break-ins and thefts are to be expected but armed robberies, assaults and attempted murders are also increasing. It's pure luck that some of the recent home invasions didn't turn violent.

Would it be possible to post a police sketch of the Fat Face Bandit?

@SLL, Thanks for the link. Correct me if I am misinterpreting the data, but Arlington's property and violent crime rates are trending up over the past decade while the national and state rates are trending down. For me, Arlington's most desirable qualities is its safety, convenience and affordability. Any indication of a decline in any of these qualities would be cause for concern.

@Stephen H - that's what I said - "crime has gone up in the last decade." Still wouldn't describe it as "rampant."
